Deja vu: Leitch Recognized as Quinnipiac Athlete of Month
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Quinnipiac senior Bryan Leitch (Coquitlam,
British Columbia) has been named the Eli’s Restaurant Group
Quinnipiac Male Athlete of the Month for January. This is the
second straight month that Leitch has been recognized as the top
male athlete at Quinnipiac. Leitch was honored with his second
career Athlete of the Month recognition after leading the Bobcats
with 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) on his way to his third
ECAC Hockey Player of the Week nod of the season.
Leitch became just the third player in ECAC Hockey history to be
named the league’s Player of the Week three times in one
season as he leads the nation in points (44), points per game
(1.69), assists (35) and assists per game (1.35). His most recent
weekly honor came following a five-point weekend at the TD
Banknorth Sports Center against Harvard and Dartmouth. Leitch
scored two goals and picked up an assist against the Crimson on
Jan. 2 and followed with two more goals against the Big Green the
following night in a 6-0 victory. The senior winger was also named
as a candidate for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given to the
nation’s top collegiate player as well as being named a
finalist for the 2009 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge in
Washington, D.C., on April 10. Leitch also became just the second
player in Quinnipiac Division I history to reach 150 career points
and the fifth to reach the 100-assist mark.
