Henningson to Lead Bobcats in 2008-09
HAMDEN, Conn. -- At the 2007-08 Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey banquet, Dan Henningson (Edmonton, Alberta) was announced as the Bobcats' captain for the 2008-09 season. Henningson was also named the team's 2007-08 Most Valuable Player.
"Dan Henningson was not only our best player this season, but he emerged as a true leader," head coach Rand Pecknold said. "Dan is one of the hardest workers we've been fortunate to have here and it's evident that our guys feed off of his energy. He was a natural choice for both our MVP award and as a captain for next season."
Henningson enjoyed an outstanding 2007-08 season in which the junior assistant captain tallied three goals and 21 assists for 24 points. Over his three year career, Henningson has amassed six goals and 44 assists for 50 career points.
Freshman Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.) was also announced as the Rookie of the Year. Hansen started 35 games on defense for the Bobcats totaling two goals and eight assists for 10 points.
"Zach had an unbelievable freshman year," Pecknold said. "We were consistently faced with injuries all season on defense and he stepped in and played hurt for most of the year. He's a great competitor and we hope for more of the same out of Zach over the next three years."
Junior Andy Meyer (St. Louis, Mo.) was given the Bobcats' "7th Player" Award, an honor given to a player who has shown the most growth as a member of the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey in his time at Quinnipiac. Meyer started in every game this season on defense, quietly emerging as one of the top defensemen in ECAC Hockey. Meyer also contributed one goal and seven assists for the season.
"Andy was another defenseman who went above and beyond this year," Pecknold said. "We were hit pretty hard with injuries - on defense in particular - and he really did all the little things to hold our defense together."
Senior Mark Agnew (Hartney, Manitoba) was honored with the "Coaches Award", given to the student-athlete who exemplifies everything that Quinnipiac men's hockey embodies. Agnew was a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team selection while playing in 95 games over his four-year career. Agnew finished with seven goals and 19 assists for 26 career points.
