Cashman Signs with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, PA -- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed former Quinnipiac defenseman Reid Cashman to an American Hockey League contract, it was announced on Thursday by Pittsburgh Penguins Assistant General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

Cashman, 25, split last season between the Toronto Marlies (AHL) and the Columbia Inferno (ECHL).  He posted three assists and eight penalty minutes in eight games with the Marlies, and 27 points (5+22) and 60 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Inferno.

In his four-year career at Quinnipiac, Cashman tallied 23 goals and 125 assists for 148 career points in 151 games played. He currently holds the records for games played (151) and career assists (125) as well as the record for assists (35, 2006-07) and points (45, 2004-05) in a season for defenseman. He also ranks eighth in career points. 

In 2004-05, Cashman became the first Division I hockey defenseman since 1986 to lead his conference, then the Atlantic Hockey League, in scoring when he totaled 45 points as a sophomore. He was named a finalist that season for the Hobey Baker Award, which is presented annually to the best overall player in Division I hockey. Cashman went on to collect All-American Third Team honors in 2005 and All-American Second Team honors in 2006.
