Navy Wins Quinnipiac Scrimmage
HAMDEN, Conn. -– Freshman Ben Ketchum (Stanford, Conn.)
had two assists while four different Bobcats scored for the “
QU Navy” in the annual “Blue & Gold”
Men’s Ice Hockey Scrimmage at the TD Banknorth Sports
Center.
David Arduin (Halfmoon Bay, B.C.) put the Gold team out in front
half way through the first period. Freshman Scott Zurevinski
(Saskatoon, Sask.) handled the puck on the right flank before
passing across the ice to Greg Holt (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.). Holt
unleashed a shot from just above the left faceoff circle towards
the left post of Quinnipiac Navy team goal. Arduin tipped the shot
past freshman Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ont.) to give the Pecknold
coached Gold team the early lead.
Quinnipiac Navy freshman Joey Manley (Ottawa, Ont.) tied the game
with 11 seconds remaining in the first frame when Ketchum found
senior Mark Nelson (Prince George, B.C.). Nelson fed the freshman
forward in the slot whose shot went top shelf, glove-side on QU
Gold goalie Bud Fisher (Peterborough, Ont.) to tie the game.
QU Gold took a 2-1 lead with a power play goal at the 11:58 mark
of the second period. David Marshall (Buffalo, Minn.) handled the
puck at point before putting a shot on freshman goalie Dan Pisellii
(Itasca, Ill.). Pisellini stopped Marshall’s shot, deflected
along the goalline where senior Bryan Leitch (Coquitlam, B.C.)
collected the rebound and poked it passed the freshman goalie.
QU Navy struck again at the 18:56 mark when freshman Spencer
Heichman (Yorba Linda, Calif.) skated through the Gold defense to
find Kevin Bui (Edmonton, Alb.) at the right faceoff circle. Bui
moved in front of Gold goalie Pat McGann (Evergreen Park, Ill.)
before dropping a backhand pass to Brett Dickinson (Furlong, Pa.)
to the right of the goal. Dickinson’s one-timer beat McGann
top shelf to tie the game at 2-2.
At the 9:27 mark of the third period, the QU Navy struck again on
a pass from linemate Jean-Marc Beaudoin (St. Paul, Alb.). Chris
Myers (Wallaceburg, Ont.) scored to give the Navy team a two-goal
lead when he was assisted by Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake,
Minn.).
In goal for the QU Navy team, Pisellini stopped 17 shots while
allowing two goals over 51:58. For the QU Gold team, Bud Fisher had
17 saves over 29 minutes in net.
