Acquiring Condon was Dorion's best move in first year as Senators GM

OTTAWA — Unless they know of another Daniel Alfredsson lying in the weeds, it’s a sure bet nobody the Senators might have selected with their fifth-round pick in next month’s draft would have ever had such an impact.

Using it to acquire Mike Condon from, ironically enough, the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 2 not only saved their season, but has had a tremendous ripple effect that is still being witnessed.

Without Condon filling in for the often-absent Craig Anderson and compiling a 19-14-6 record that included five shutouts, the Senators would never have even made the playoffs, forget about becoming one of four teams that still have a shot in mid-May at winning the Stanley Cup.
