Team Notes: Princeton Starts Second Semester Hosting UConn
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton men's hockey team looks to keep rolling as the Tigers' return for the second semester hosting Connecticut in the final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m., at Baker Rink.
Princeton has a 6-10-5 overall record and returns to the ice for the first time in 16 days. The Tigers are 5-8-2 in the ECAC to sit in ninth place in the league standings. In the last time out on the ice Princeton went 1-0-1 against two top-ranked teams, defeating No. 12 Colgate 6-2 and tied No. 9 Cornell 3-3. In the last five games, Princeton is 2-1-2. Sophomores Jack Berger and Andrew Calof lead the team in scoring. Berger has 17 points off of nine goals and eight assists, while Calof has 16 points with seven goals and nine assists. Junior defender Michael Sdao follows up with 15 points and fellow blueliner, senior Derrick Pallis has 10 points. Princeton utilizes two goaltenders, junior Mike Condon and sophomore Sean Bonar. Condon has started the last four games and has played in nine overall. He has a .915 save percentage and a 2.93 goals against average. Bonar has an .899 save percentage and a 2.94 GAA in 13 games.
Princeton is undefeated against Connecticut, 2-0. The teams first played each other on Jan. 24, 2010 at Baker Rink, where the Tigers won 8-1. Last year Princeton won a 4-1 game during the UConn Husky Classic in which Princeton was the champion. Junior Eric Meland leads the Tigers in scoring against UConn, with three goals and three assists in two games.
Connecticut comes to Baker with a 12-12-2 overall record, going 6-2 since Jan 1. The Huskies swept Holy Cross in a home-and-home series this past weekend. UConn is winless when playing against non-conference opponents on the road, 0-3-1. It is third in the nation in power play scoring on 25.7% of its chances (29/113). At the top of the scoring column are four sophomores. Cole Schneider leads the team with 28 points on 13 goals and15 assists. Billy Latta has a team-high 16 assists to go along with seven goals for 23 points. Brant Harris and Jordan Sims add 22 and 20 points, respectively. Five other skaters are in double digits in scoring. Junior Garrett Bartus has started in all but one game in goal. He has made 802 saves on 863 shots for a .929 save percentage and a 2.36 GAA.
