The GQ&A: George Parros

The following article featuring former Princeton standout George Parros appeared November 17 on the Gentlemen's Quarterly (GQ) Web site.

He is The Most Interesting Man in the NHL. A feared enforcer with an Ivy League pedigree, one of the league's most recognizable faces and, yet, he never scores. We spoke with Anaheim Ducks winger George Parros—currently on the shelf for four weeks after taking a puck to the eye—about fighting superstars, nerding out on the road, and the inherent power of the 'stache.

...

GQ: Perhaps more than your play on the ice, you've become known for the hair on your upper lip. How did this start?

George Parros: I was always fascinated with the guys in the NHL in the '70s and '80s. There's always been a strong connection between mustaches and hockey players, and the guys back then had some incredible facial hair. My 'stache was kind of an homage to them and it's turned into the greatest marketing tool for me. It's taken on a life of its own.

GQ: You're participating in Movember this year. Any luck getting your teammates to join in?

George Parros: We actually have full participation this year. I'm pretty proud of the guys for sacrificing their upper lips for a good cause. Around the first week is my favorite part because you get the awkward growth. We're seeing some guys with some strong growth right now but we'll see who can continue to do it in the coming weeks. Some guys start out hot and then plateau. Right now everyone looks pretty ridiculous.
