Team Notes: Tigers Entertain St. Lawrence & Clarkson
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/9/11) - The Princeton men’s hockey
team entertains St. Lawrence on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., and
Clarkson on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m.
Princeton is 1-3-1 on the season after splitting last
weekend’s games. Juniors Rob Kleebaum, Michael Sdao, Eric
Meland and sophomore Andrew Calof all have four points to sit atop
the scoring column. Goaltending duties have been shared between
sophomore Sean Bonar and junior Mike Condon. Bonar is 1-1-1 with a
2.94 goals against average and an .899 save percentage. Condon is
0-2 with a 3.56 GAA and an .873 save percentage.
St. Lawrence is ahead 61-21-9 in the all-time series, which dates
back to 1947. Princeton won both games during the regular season,
5-1 and 5-3. The Saints would then take two of three games in the
first round of the ECAC Tournament that ended the Tigers’
season.
St. Lawrence is 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in the ECAC after
splitting the home weekend with a 2-0 loss to Union followed by a
2-0 win over Rensselaer. Junior Kyle Flanagan is the team’s
leading scorer with five goals and five assists for 10 points.
Sophomore Greg Carey has six points all coming by way of the
assist. Junior George Hughes adds five points to round out the top
three scorers. Sophomore Matt Weninger has played in five games and
with a 1-4-1 record, Weninger has a 3.64 GAA and an .856 save
percentage.
Head Coach Bob Prier will face his alma mater St. Lawrence for the
first time on Friday night. Prier was a 1999 graduate of St.
Lawrence and spent the last nine seasons on the hockey staff at St.
Lawrence under Joe Marsh.
Clarkson owns a 71-27-5 record in the all-time series with
Princeton. The teams split last season’s series with Clarkson
taking a 5-3 game at Baker Rink and the Tigers getting a 4-3 win in
Canton.
Clarkson enters the weekend with a 6-2-2 record and is 1-1 after
beating Rensselaer 4-1 and falling to Union 3-1 last weekend. The
loss to Union ended the Golden Knights’ seven-game unbeaten
streak. The Green and Gold are led by a pair of seniors, Louke
Oakley and Nick Tremblay. Oakley has six goals and six assists for
12 points. Tremblay also has six goals to go along with three
assists for nine points. Sophomore Ben Sexton and freshman Sam
Labrecque also have nine points. Senior netminder Paul Karpowich
has been Clarkson’s mainstay in goal and has a 1.88 GAA and a
.936 save percentage.
