Kalemba Nets Deal with Reading

READING, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed former Princeton goaltender Zane Kalemba to an ECHL contract. The Royals claimed the ECHL rights to Kalemba (5'11/185) (25) on Tuesday after he was waived by the Victoria Salmon Kings.

This season, Kalemba, a first-year pro from Saddle Brook, New Jersey, has been with three teams. He started the season with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League, where he played one game (0-1-0, 5.04 goals-against average, .821 save percentage) before joining the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL in mid-November. While with the Jackals, Kalemba appeared in four games (1-0-1-0, 4.40, .821), which included 26:07 of action (6 saves on 7 shots) against the Royals on December 3, 2010, in Reading's 6-1 win over the Jackals.

Prior to turning pro, Kalemba had a stellar four-year collegiate career at Princeton University, where he set school career records in games played (108), wins (57), save percentage (.912), and shutouts (9). In his junior season with the Tigers, Kalemba capped a spectacular year in which he went 22-10-1 (1.82 gaa, .932 save %) by being selected as the ECAC Hockey and Ivy League Player of the Year and nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.
