Princeton Presents Annual Awards at Banquet
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Princeton men's hockey team held its
annual post-season banquet last Friday night at the Nassau Inn in
Princeton and handed out its five year-end awards. A great turnout
of student-athletes, parents, alumni and staff honored the senior
class and award winners, and celebrated one of the best seasons of
men's hockey at Princeton.
The first award presented on the night was the Pre-Season Top
Athlete Award, given annually to the best athlete on the team based
on pre-season testing in the weight room and on the ice. The award
was given to junior forward Lee
Jubinville, who is the second-ever winner of the award. The award
was first given in head coach Guy
Gadowsky's first season at Princeton and Darroll
Powe was the award winner the first three seasons it was given
out.
The Hobey Baker Trophy was presented to freshman defenseman Taylor
Fedun. The trophy is awarded annually to the team's freshman hockey
player who, among his classmates, in play, sportsmanship and
influence has contributed most to the sport. Fedun appeared in 32
games as a freshman on the Tiger blueline and scored four goals and
added 10 assists for 14 points.
Next came the presentation of the Richard E. Vaughan Cup, awarded
annually to that varsity player who best exemplifies perseverance
and dedication to Princeton Hockey. And the winner as voted by his
teammates was senior forward Kyle
Hagel. Hagel played in 32 games as a senior and had five points for
the Tigers, including a game winner against Yale.
Hagel and senior defenseman Mike
Moore were both co-winners of the 1941 Championship Trophy, which
is presented annually to that varsity player who best reflected the
winning spirit of the 1941 championship team and in so doing was an
inspiration to his teammates. Moore served as the team's captain as
a senior and led all Tiger defensemen with 24 points on his way to
being named a first-team All-America. Hagel was also an important
leader on the team, both on and off the ice.
Lastly, Moore and Jubinville were both named co-winners of the
Blackwell Trophy, which is annually awarded to that member of the
Princeton varsity hockey team who in play, sportsmanship and
influence has contributed most to the sport. The pair were both
first-team All-Americas, first-team All-ECAC and first-team
All-Ivy. Jubinville was the ECAC Player of the Year and a Hobey
Baker Candidate, while Moore was the ECAC's Top Defenseman and
recently signed with the NHL's San Jose Sharks.
The night concluded with words from each of the five members of
Princeton's graduating class - Landis
Stankievech, Erik
Pridham, Moore, Keith
Shattenkirk and Hagel.
