Halpern Returns as Alternate Captain
The Tampa Bay Lightning made no announcement, but when former Princeton forward Jeff Halpern skated onto the ice for the opening faceoff Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche, he was wearing the A as an alternate captain. Defenseman Andrej Meszaros, who had been wearing the A, was not.
Halpern was in the Tampa Bay lineup Thursday night for the first
time since reconstructive right knee surgery in June.
Injured while playing for the United States at the hockey world
championships, Halpern was acquired by Tampa Bay last February in a
multiplayer deal with Dallas.
Halpern scored his first goal since April 2 from the slot in the
second period of Thursday's game against Colorado.
