One year after a sub-.500 season, the Princeton University men's
ice hockey team took a big leap forward by winning the ECAC Hockey
Championship and advancing to just their second NCAA Tournament in
program history this season while setting a program record for wins
in a season.
The excitement over those accomplishments was tempered when their
NCAA trip lasted just one game, a misleading 5-1 loss to top-seeded
North Dakota on Saturday in the Madison, Wis. regional. The
Fighting Sioux reached the Frozen Four with an overtime win over
Wisconsin on Sunday.
"It still sort of feels bad because of the loss," said Princeton
head coach Guy Gadowsky after finishing the season 21-14. "We felt
we deserved to be there. It still feels bad. I'm sure that in a
week or so, we'll look back and feel proud of everything. Right
now, we lost a game everybody feels could have turned out
differently. It doesn't feel good right now."
