Westgarth Signs with San Jose
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and
General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has
signed free agent defenseman Brett Westgarth, who played at
Princeton, to a one-year contract. In keeping with club
policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Westgarth, 26, split the 2007-08 season between Iowa of the
American Hockey League and Flint of the International Hockey
League. In 37 games with Iowa, he posted five points (2-3=5) and 89
penalty minutes. In 27 games with Flint, Westgarth posted 12 points
(2-10=12) and 39 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound native of Amherstburg, Ontario played
college hockey at Princeton. In his four years there, he registered
24 points (4-20=24) in 114 games. Undrafted, he signed as a free
agent with Syracuse (AHL) following the conclusion of his senior
season in 2006-07 and played in five games registering one assist
(0-1=1) and six penalty minutes.
