Hey bloggers,
10 am, be at the rink- A standard line from our coach before we all take off from the locker room. As soon as those words are spoken, the alarm gets set on my phone. Right now I am going to make a confession. I have always been a bit paranoid about my alarm not going off, so I like to take appropriate precautions. I set three alarms. One on my phone, one on my alarm clock radio, and I got a new one for Christmas that I can set to make any noise I want… currently it is set to birds chirping, which is a little more peaceful that the other two I set to buzz, but as my second back-up, I usually shut it off before it goes off. This ritual of mine drives my girlfriend crazy. She can usually sleep in when I head to the rink, but with my symphony of alarms going off, it makes it difficult (plus, I usually make her set the alarm on her phone, too... just in case).
When I woke up to my first alarm sounding last Wednesday morning, and I finally stopped hitting the snooze button (on all three), I noticed a new text from our athletic trainer, “practice postponed due to weather, keep you posted.” Waking up to a text like this is like waking up to a winning lottery ticket but the prize isn’t money, it is extra sleep… and in a season as long as ours, that is priceless. At this point, I went around my room, set my alarms for 10:30, and went right back to sleep. When I woke up from this extended sleep, there was nothing new from our trainer, so I decided to stay in bed for another hour and watch some tube.
