Pelle Moves to Belfast

Belfast Giants are delighted to announce the signing of former Harvard forward Jon Pelle for the upcoming season. Pelle moves to Belfast from the Cardiff Devils where he had a record-breaking year, scoring 55 goals and 55 assists amassing 110 points over the season, leading all players in scoring and setting a new league points record along the way. Whilst studying at Harvard, Pelle won the ECAC Hockey Championship before heading to the Central Hockey League where we won the league title with Rapid City Rush.

In his first season in the Elite League last year with the Cardiff Devils, he won both the Forward of the Year and Newcomer of the Year Awards.

Giants Coach Doug Christiansen, a former Union standout, expects more of the same from Pelle in Belfast this coming season.

“Jon excelled in our league last season. Actually, he dominated the scoring race all season long. This is a great coup for the Giants to sign a player that was one of the superstars in the Elite League last year. He knows how to put the puck in the net and we expect him to be one of the best players in the league again next season.”

GM Todd Kelman talked about the newest Giant.

“Jon is an exciting player to watch and I was impressed every time I saw him play last season. We want to bring a more intense and exciting brand of hockey to our fans with plenty of goals next season. Our fans want to see the best players in the league week in and week out and in my eyes, Jon was the best forward in the league last year and one of the most exciting to watch. I am very pleased to have him as a Giant.”

Pelle himself on coming to Belfast: “The Giants are a very professional team and I look forward to joining them. I’m excited about living in a new country and seeing what the city of Belfast has to offer. I’m sure Doug will put another strong group together and I hope I can contribute to a winning season.”
