Hey bloggers,
So we hit the road, again, last week on our journey to
Bridgeport, CT. Because it is about four hours away, we left the
night before to save our legs and ensure a good night’s
sleep. To break up the trip, Coach had the bus stop at a casino on
our way to the rink. Gambling and inhaling second hand smoke
isn’t my ideal situation but it was fun watching people. Some
of the guys played a few slots to pass the time, some even won a
little cash on black jack. Jake Lagace was the biggest winner of
the night, and was kind enough to offer to buy us all dinner on the
next road trip.
After about two hours at the casino, we were back en route. Our
first stop when we hit Bridgeport was to drop our bags off at the
rink. From there, we continued on to the hotel for some shut-eye.
The day was done for most of us, but not everyone. That night, our
equipment manager slept in the locker room across two folded
chairs, even though he had his own room a few blocks down at the
Holiday Inn. Even though it may be argued that he is a few French
fries short of a McDonald’s Happy Meal - his dedication is
second to none. The reason he decided to get three hours of
sleep on two folding chairs was because it took about eight hours
to prepare for the players’ arrival at the rink for our 9
a.m. pre-game skate.
