Hey bloggers,

All-star break is the time of the season where we get four days off to re-charge our batteries, before we make the final push to the end of the season. The next couple of months on our schedule are packed with games and practices leading up to play-offs. When the majority of our time is spend at the rink, it is always nice to get away and take a mental and physical break from hockey.  Most of the guys did just that. We had a group of guys flying out first-thing Sunday morning to the Bahamas and another to Florida. For the two-weeks prior to the break, our team gave the local tanning salons some great business “pre-tanning” for the trips. Although it is the Ice-girls who are sponsored by Sun Tan City, some players in our locker-room looked like we were getting the benefit instead… Dennis McCauley gets the award for the best pre-tan.

For me, break could not have come at a better time. As you may know, I got injured during the final minutes of our game the Saturday night before break and will be out for at least two weeks. Having the ability to relax for four days really benefited me physically and mentally. I took a 6:00am flight Sunday from Boston to Fort Lauderdale and was on the beach by 11:00am. I was really looking forward to snorkeling and golfing, but I wasn’t able to do either because of my injury. My vacation was a little different than I had planned. Every morning I went down to the beach with a cooler jam packed with, not beverages, but ice for my injury. It was hard keeping ice on the area because the bag would melt in minutes. A large cooler of ice would literally last just 30 minutes, switching out the ice bag every 5 minutes.
