Reese Nets First NHL Goal (with Video)

By Carmine Vetrano

Defenseman Dylan Reese, a former Harvard standout, scored his first NHL goal in the New York Islanders' 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks March 16 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Just 6:22 into the opening period in Vancouver, Islanders’ forward John Tavares found Reese all alone at the point and fed him a pass.  With teammate Matt Moulson, a former Cornell standout, camped out in front of Olympic gold medalist and Canucks’ goaltender Roberto Luongo, Reese snapped a shot that sailed past the screened netminder for Reese's first goal in the NHL, giving the Islanders an early 1-0 lead.

The Pittsburgh, PA native joined the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in March after he was acquired in a trade that sent him and fellow teammate Mike Radja over from the Syracuse Crunch for Greg Moore.  Reese played in only one game with the Sound Tigers and registered a goal and an assist, becoming the first Sound Tigers’ defenseman since Bruno Gervais to register a point in his first game.

A 2003 draft pick of the New York Rangers, Reese spent four years at Harvard before making his jump to the AHL.  He spent time with both the Hartford Wolf Pack, and San Antonio Rampage before heading north to the Crunch.  While at Syracuse this season, he amassed 22 points in 51 games.

Reese is one of six Sound Tiger skaters this season to receive a call up to the Islanders.
