BOSTON — In terms of momentum, these aren’t exactly
four runaway freight trains bearing down on the TD Garden for the
58th Beanpot over the next two Mondays.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that
defending champ Boston University usually rises to the challenge at
this time of year. Yet the 2009-10 Terriers have found it tough
sledding following up the program’s first NCAA championship
since 1995. BU, winners of 12 of the last 15 Beanpots, is scuffling
at 8-11-3 overall (6-9-2 in Hockey East).
Boston College – two seasons removed from the kind of
hardware hat trick BU pulled off last year (winning Beanpot, Hockey
East tournament and NCAA crowns) – is in second place in the
league at 12-8-2 (9-6-2). Yet the Eagles have been sputtering
lately, losing five of their last seven.
