Crimson to Collect Socks for Homeless Saturday
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard men's hockey team will be
collecting new, white socks to benefit the Boston Health Care for
the Homeless Program at Saturday's game against Colgate.
Fans are encouraged to bring the socks to the game, the Crimson's
final regular-season home contest, and stick around afterward for
Senior Night festivities. The puck drops at 7 p.m. The sock drive
is the kickoff to Harvard's relationship with BHCHP, and members of
the team are looking forward to volunteering with the organization
following the season.
"I'm very excited and proud of that our team is stepping up to
make a difference in our community," said Ted Donato '91, the
Robert D. Ziff '88 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Ice Hockey. "We
look forward to contributing to the mission of the Boston Health
Care for the Homeless Program and encourage our fans, alumni and
students to join us in this effort."
BHCHP is in its 25th year of providing the highest quality of
health care to Boston's homeless men, women and children. Last year
alone, the program provided care to over 11,000 patients through an
extensive network of sites. The organization is recognized as a
national model, having been the first in the country to develop an
electronic medical record for a homeless program, a 24-hour medical
respite unit, a multidisciplinary HIV team to care for homeless
people and a street team dedicated to extending health services to
people who avoid shelter and hospital clinics.
