Grumet-Morris Becomes a Road Warrior
GREENVILLE, S.C.
- The Greenville Road Warriors, ECHL affiliate of the New York
Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that they have
traded defenseman David Schulz to the Utah Grizzlies in exchange
for former Harvard goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris.
"Dov is an intelligent goalie who thinks the game well. He also
provides our team with a great leader on and off the ice. He
has proven to be a solid contributor at this level in the past, and
we are very excited to bring him into the fold," said Head Coach
Dean Stork.
In joining the Road Warriors, Grumet-Morris returns to North
America after two seasons in Europe. The 28-year-old netminder
played 91 games in Austria between HK Jesenice and Graz EC from
2008 to 2010. Prior to the start of the 2009-10 season,
Grumet-Morris signed in the ECHL with Utah before deciding to
return to Austria. The Grizzlies protected his rights which allowed
for the trade with the Road Warriors to be completed.
In the 2002 NHL Entry Draft Grumet-Morris was taken in the fifth
round (# 161 overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers. The Evanston,
Illinois native won a Central Hockey League championship as a
rookie with Laredo in 2005-06, and earned an 18-5-2 record during
the regular season. The 6-2, 200-pound goaltender spent the next
two seasons splitting time between the American Hockey League and
ECHL. He earned a 31-11-4 record in his time with the Cincinnati
Cyclones, including a 20-3-1 mark for the 2007-08 Cyclones squad
that captured the ECHL's Kelly Cup. Grumet-Morris recorded four
shutouts in the AHL during the 2006-07 season skating for Portland,
Hamilton, and Manitoba. He added nine games with the Milwaukee
Admirals in 2007-08 and won four of them.
Grumet-Morris graduated from Harvard University with a 63-40-9 in
114 appearances for the Crimson. He finished with 11 career
shutouts, a record at the time of his graduation, a 2.25
goals-against average and a .924 save percentage.
