Team Notes: Harvard Hosts Quinnipiac at Bright
Game On
The Harvard men's hockey team hosts Quinnipiac Wednesday at 7 p.m.
at Bright Hockey Center to complete its
regular‑season series with the Bobcats as well
as the 2010 calendar year.
Student Study Break
Harvard students can take a break from studying for final exams by
coming to watch Wednesday's game. All students, including graduate
students, will receive free admission, and the first 200 to arrive
will receive free pizza, hot chocolate and coffee. The first 50
students will receive a "Go Crimson" Expand-A-Banner. Other
promotions include a student raffle for restaurant gift cards and
massages from the Harvard Wellness Center, HUECU Chuck-A-Puck for a
$100 prepaid gift card and an on-ice house relay race.

Behind the Bench
Former Crimson captain, NCAA Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player
and 13-year National Hockey League veteran Ted Donato '91 is in his
seventh season as The Robert D. Ziff '88 Head Coach for Harvard
Men's Ice Hockey. He owns an 93-96-20 record, three ECAC title-game
appearances and two NCAA tournament bids.
Last Weekend
No. 18 Merrimack held the Harvard offense in check and
defeated the Crimson, 3-1, Nov. 30 at Bright Hockey Center. Alex
Killorn (Montreal, Que.) scored to halve a
third‑period Merrimack lead, but the Warriors
sealed the win with a late empty‑net
goal. Kyle
Richter (Calgary, Alta.) made 36 saves for Harvard.
Brendan Rempel (Willington, Conn.) logged his first career point
with an assist on the Killorn goal, while Eric
Kroshus (Calgary, Alta.) also assisted.
Leading the Crimson
With four goals and seven points, Alex Killorn leads
Harvard in both categories. Brothers Danny
Biega (Montreal, Que.) and Michael
Biega (Montreal, Que.) share the team assists lead with
four and, with five points each, are tied with Conor
Morrison (London, Ont.) (two goals, three assists) for
second on the team in scoring.
In the Crease
Kyle Richter ranks fifth nationally with a .932 save
percentage and owns a 2.38 goals-against average. He has
surrendered two goals or fewer in five of his eight starts and has
not allowed more than three goals in any game.
Outside the Box
The Crimson is averaging just 9.7 penalty minutes per
game, tied for the fifth-lowest mark in the nation. Harvard has
given its opponents two or fewer power plays in four of the last
six games and has surrendered more than four power plays only twice
in nine games.
First Blood
Harvard has scored first in both of its wins, and its
opponents have scored first in all of their victories. The Crimson
is 2-0-0 when leading at any point in a game and 0-7-0 when
trailing.
On a Roll
Alex Killorn has registered a point in each of Harvard's
last four games and in seven of the Crimson's nine games overall.
He has recorded a winning or even faceoff record in each of the
last seven contests.
Clutch Performer
Alex Killorn scored the game's lone goal with 8.2 seconds
left on the clock to lift Harvard to a 1-0 win against then-No. 18
Rensselaer Nov. 6. He netted another game-winning goal Nov. 12 at
St. Lawrence and is one of only two ECAC players with two
game‑winners in league action. He is tied for
10th nationally in game-winning tallies.
Skate for Boston's Homeless
The Crimson will partner with Boston Health Care for the
Homeless Program to host a Family Holiday Skate Dec. 18 from 1-4
p.m. to help collect winter clothing items for area homeless men,
women and children. Admission is free with the donation of new
items such as white socks, winter hats, scarves, mittens and
gloves. Other activities will include a visit from Santa, face
painting and holiday arts and crafts. Skate rentals will not be
available, so participants should bring their own skates.
Nov. 20 at TD Bank Sports Center
The Crimson came back from a 4-1
second‑period deficit to tie the game, only to
see the Bobcats score early in the third period and withstand a
late Harvard push for a 5-4 win. Conor Morrison, Colin
Moore (Medfield, Mass.), Rence
Coassin (Hamden, Conn.) and Alex Killorn scored for
Harvard. Coassin, who was playing in his hometown, and Moore added
assists. Ryan
Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) made 24 saves in a relief
goaltending appearance.
Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac's 5-4 win against the Crimson completed a
weekend sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth and gave the Bobcats a
7‑4‑1 overall record. The
team has lost its four games since, with three defeats coming on
home ice, including a sweep at the hands of St. Lawrence and
Clarkson last weekend. The Bobcats are 2-4-1 on the road this
season, with the victories coming at St. Cloud State and
Colgate.
Yuri Bouharevich is Quinnipiac's top scorer with 11 points and its top setup man with eight assists. Junior captain Scott Zurevinski leads the team with six goals, while freshman twins Connor (four goals, six assists) and Kellen Jones (four goals, four assists) are among the team scoring leaders. Dan Clarke has made nine starts in goal, two more than Eric Hartzell, but Hartzell leads the Bobcats with a 4-1-0 record, .916 save percentage and 2.43 goals-against average.
Series History
The Crimson is 7-5-2 against Quinnipiac in a series that
dates back to a 5-2 Bobcats win in their first ECAC game in 2005.
Harvard won a home ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series between the
teams in 2008 and is 7-1 at home against the Bobcats. Quinnipiac is
4-0-2 in its series home games, including a 2-2 tie in the
inaugural ECAC Hockey game at TD Bank Sports Center in 2007.
Three rookies scored and Kyle Richter made 36 saves as Harvard knocked off No. 8 Quinnipiac, 3-1, last season at Bright. Luke Greiner (Faribault, Minn.) and Louis Leblanc '13 scored in the first and second periods, respectively, before Richter's 16 third-period saves and an empty‑net goal by David Valek (Zagreb, Croatia) sealed the win.
