When Noah Welch injured his shoulder and opted to have surgery, he wasn't sure he could get healthy enough to finish the season. Throughout rehab, he used the thought of coming back as motivation during crunch time.
Welch is back, but because he hasn't played since October, the Panthers have been reluctant to put him in the lineup. ''I think it's a tough spot for me right now,'' said Welch, who played in four games before hurting his shoulder while fighting in Montreal on Oct. 16. ``We're in a playoff run, and really, the coaching staff doesn't know me that well. I'm still a new guy. I just have to keep working and be ready if given the opportunity.''
