Don't blame Harvard coach Ted Donato for wearing a look of contentment each time he sends sophomore center Doug Rogers over the boards onto the ice. The steady and intelligent play of the Watertown product is a big reason why the third-seeded Crimson will face fifth-seeded Cornell in the ECAC semifinals tonight at Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.
"We ask and expect a lot out of Dougie," said Donato while seated on a sofa inside the Bright Hockey Center. "He centers our top line, works the half-wall on the first power play, and he's a guy that from the day he stepped in has been a go-to guy for us. He's a guy that really has come a long way in two years. He's become a much more complete player and at the same time his offense has improved with it.
"He's a guy that we feel we can use at any time in the game," Donato said. "Defensively, he's solid. He's been one of the best faceoff men in the league for a couple of years. He's a key for us, not only in the offense he creates but in his ability to get other people the puck. We've asked a lot of Dougie and we've received a great deal. I think the sky's the limit for him as player."
