When it comes to the Beanpot trophy, Harvard's quest for the silver chalice has mirrored the proverbial search for the Holy Grail. Harvard's last triumph was on Feb. 1, 1993 when the Crimson skated to a 4-2 victory over Boston University in front of a Boston Garden crowd of 14,448.

It was Harvard's first 'Pot triumph since 1989 - the same year it won a national title - and was sparked by a two-goal effort by forward Steve Martins and 30 saves from Tripp Tracy. Senior forward Ted Drury, a returning 1992 U.S. Olympian, led the tournament in scoring with two goals and four assists and was named MVP.

Sean McCann, an All-American defenseman on that team out of North York, Ontario, is now the top recruiter on coach Ted Donato's Harvard staff. He spent the recent days leading up to tomorrow night's 56th annual Beanpot championship game imparting to the current players the message of how special it can be to skate the ice with that trophy in hand. Harvard plays Boston College tomorrow night (8, NESN) for the title.
