Islanders Commitment to Youth Includes Rogers

Young players are the lifeblood of any organization. With the 2008 Entry Draft now history, NHL teams have had the chance to assess their young players to see who has a chance of making it to "The Show" for the 2008-09 season and beyond.

NHL.com's writing staff has been working the phones since the Entry Draft ended to compile the most up-to-date information on team prospects anywhere.

Starting Monday, July 21, NHL.com will spotlight one club and look at the young players fans should become familiar with this summer because they soon may be coming to an NHL arena near you.

On August 5 NHL.com featured the New York Islanders. On the list of the team's top prospects is Harvard forward Doug Rogers. Following is the summary on Rogers:

Doug Rogers -- A 2006 fourth-round pick (No. 119), Rogers improved in his second season at Harvard, posting 13 goals and 32 points in 34 games. The 6-1, 195-pound center played on the Crimson's top line and tied for the club lead a plus-13 rating.

"Doug has had two really strong years at Harvard," said Ryan Jankowski, the club's assistant general manager and director of amateur scouting. "He's a player that has to get a little bit better at everything. He plays like a pro. Like any young 20-year-old, he's still getting better at everything. There's not one thing he has to improve upon, it's just fine-tuning."
