Feature: Connecting with Kids
Begun five summers ago by former Harvard forward and Hockey Humanitarian finalist Rob Fried '04, the Crimson City Hockey Clinic is a non-profit ice hockey clinic providing free ice time, inexpensive equipment and positive role models to Boston youth. On and off the ice, the organization is run completely by Harvard hockey players, so in addition to helping the Boston community, it provides real-world business experience for the student-athletes involved. The student-athletes are responsible for fund-raising, scheduling, insurance, tax-exemption and other filings and on-ice instruction.
This summer, under the direction of president Ryan Maki '07 and vice president Jon Pelle, the clinic met for nine hour-long ice sessions (three series of three weeks each) at Boston University's Walter Brown Arena. Brian McCafferty and Harvard women's player Jodi Krakower assisted with instruction.
Last week, the New England Hockey Journal paid a visit to the final clinic session of the summer. Click here to read about it.
