Smith Heads Back to Providence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Checkers have loaned former Harvard defenseman Kenny Smith to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League for the second time this season.

Smith, 6'2, 210 pounds, has played in 19 games for the Checkers this season registering one goal, two assists for three points with 38 penalty minutes. The Stoneham, Mass. native dressed in 64 games for the Checkers last season while spending time with both Providence and the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL). Previously this season, he dressed in two games with the Bruins but didn't register a point.

Smith was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round of the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Dec. 18 against the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
