PROVIDENCE, RI -- The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that former Harvard defenseman Kenny Smith has been returned to Charlotte of the ECHL after two scoreless games with the Bruins.

Smith, 25, is in his fourth professional season. The defenseman, who participated in the P-Bruins' training camp prior to the start of the season, began the year with the Checkers, scoring one goal, adding a pair of assists and notching 29 penalty minutes in 16 games. He returns to Charlotte after two games with Providence last weekend, finishing with two penalty minutes and a minus-one rating.

A season ago, Smith split time between Charlotte, the Hartford Wolf Pack and Providence, playing one game for the P-Bruins in January. During his young career, during which he has amassed five goals, 28 assists, 33 points and 242 PIM in 214 contests, Smith has also seen time in the AHL with the Portland Pirates and Edmonton Roadrunners and in the ECHL with the Greenville Grrrowl.

Prior to turning pro, the native of Stoneham, Massachusetts, played four years for the Harvard University Crimson, captaining the team as a senior.

Smith was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers 84th overall in the third round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
