Smith Returned to Charlotte
PROVIDENCE, RI -- The Providence Bruins, member of the American
Hockey League, announced today that former Harvard defenseman Kenny
Smith has been returned to Charlotte of the ECHL after two
scoreless games with the Bruins.
Smith, 25, is in his fourth professional season. The defenseman,
who participated in the P-Bruins' training camp prior to the start
of the season, began the year with the Checkers, scoring one goal,
adding a pair of assists and notching 29 penalty minutes in 16
games. He returns to Charlotte after two games with Providence last
weekend, finishing with two penalty minutes and a minus-one
rating.
A season ago, Smith split time between Charlotte, the Hartford Wolf
Pack and Providence, playing one game for the P-Bruins in January.
During his young career, during which he has amassed five goals, 28
assists, 33 points and 242 PIM in 214 contests, Smith has also seen
time in the AHL with the Portland Pirates and Edmonton Roadrunners
and in the ECHL with the Greenville Grrrowl.
Prior to turning pro, the native of Stoneham, Massachusetts, played
four years for the Harvard University Crimson, captaining the team
as a senior.
Smith was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers 84th overall in the third
round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
