Daigneau Traded to Pensacola

Second-year goalie John Daigneau, who played at Harvard, has been traded to the Eastern Division Pensacola Ice Pilots for future considerations, the Idaho Steelheads announced Wednesday.

Daigneau, who played sparingly last season as a backup to Steve Silverthorn, was presented with the option of staying with Idaho in a three-goalie rotation with Silverthorn and rookie Kellen Briggs or going to Pensacola, where he presumably will see more playing time.

Daigneau opted to try the new opportunity.

"It was a tough decision to make," Daigneau said Wednesday from "somewhere in Colorado" as he made the long drive to Florida. "Obviously, last year was special to me and Boise is a great place to play. But at this point in my career, I decided I needed to see if I could get more playing time."

Daigneau finished with a 5-6-0 record last season. He had one win and two overtime losses this season.

"I'm excited for the chance to play," he said. "I'm not pursuing this to go sit on their bench."
