Sticking with Wood: Panthers' Welch Shuns Composites

SUNRISE - Defenseman Noah Welch tried switching from a wooden
hockey stick to a high-tech graphite composite in college.
He quickly abandoned that idea.
"My coach was calling Sher-Wood [manufacturer] every day, wondering
when my [wood] sticks were going to get in, because I was terrible
with [composite]," Welch said, smiling.
