The Wild had skated for about an hour Monday and was about to leave the ice. But coach Mike Yeo gathered the team in a circle and told it that rookie winger Nick Johnson is going to Ottawa to take part in All-Star weekend.

This news coincides with the acknowledgement that center Mikko Koivu will miss the All-Star Game because of a shoulder injury.

"Mikko is doing well, but two weeks out from the injury, it's just too much of a stretch and not realistic for him to play," General Manager Chuck Fletcher said of Koivu, who was replaced in Sunday's game by Edmonton's Jordan Eberle.

Johnson, meanwhile, will represent the Wild as one of 13 rookies participating in Saturday night's skills competition.

He got some good-natured ribbing from his teammates in the locker room.

"It will be nonstop for about an hour," he said. "I'm pretty good at deflecting that sort of thing. They'll probably get bored with it."
