Wyman Tallies First NHL Goal (with Video)
TAMPA, Fla. -- Former Dartmouth standout JT Wyman scored his first National Hockey League (NHL) goal as the Tampa Bay Lightning rallied to defeat Montreal, 4-3, Thursday.
Wyman, recalled from Norfolk of the American Hockey League last week, beat Carey Price at 17 minutes, 38 seconds of the second period with his first career NHL goal that brought the Lightning to within one and also swung the momentum in their favor going into the final 20 minutes.
“He does exactly what we ask him to do,” Lightning head coach Guy Boucher said of Wyman. “His work ethic is good and he’s a big guy. I would honestly say that I think that was the best game by a call-up in a year and half.”
Trailing 3-1, Wyman reduced the deficit to one late in the middle frame before controversy ensued. It was uncertain whether or not the whistle blew before the puck crossed the line after trickling through Price’s pads. Nevertheless, the call stood to make it 3-2 and give the Lightning momentum heading into the final period.
“I knew it was in as soon as I got down to the goal line and I saw it trickle across,” Wyman said. “I’m still waiting for it to hit the back of the net,” he joked.
In addition to netting his first goal, Wyman set up Vincent Lecavalier’s game-winner in the third, which broke a 3-3 tie with approximately 11 minutes to go in regulation to give Tampa Bay its fourth victory in its past six games.
