Sitting in the locker room 11 days ago, it seemed like just another game day for Hugh Jessiman. The 6-foot-6, 231-pounder was preparing to suit up for a game with the Rockford IceHogs against the Houston Aeros. Little did Jessiman know, however, a trade was being made behind the scenes that would send him, along with RW Jack Skille, from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Florida Panthers in exchange for RW Michael Frolik and G Alexander Salak.

“I was in the locker room ready to play and the coaching staff pulled me aside and said that I was not playing,” Jessiman explained. “They told me that something was happening, but they weren’t sure what it was, and I was notified after the game that I had been traded.”

Upon receiving the news, the New York City native says that he was excited about the chance to get a fresh start with the Amerks. Less than 48 hours later, Jessiman was in the lineup for his new team taking on the Binghamton Senators on Friday night, in which he finished with two shots playing on a line with Michael Duco and Mark Cullen.
