Stempniak, Coyotes Benefit from Trade-Deadline Move to Phoenix

The following article featuring former Dartmouth standout Lee Stempniak appeared in the March 30 issue of USA Today.

On trade-deadline day, Lee Stempniak was dealt to a team to be named. At least that's the story he was told right before the 3 p.m. deadline.

"It was an anxious day," Stempniak said. "About 10 minutes of 3, (Toronto Maple Leafs general manager) Brian Burke told me I was traded, but he couldn't tell me where because it hadn't gone through. And I waited an hour or an hour or a half before I knew it was Phoenix."

It turned out to be worth the wait because his move to the Coyotes has enhanced his reputation with unrestricted free agency looming next summer. With 12 goals and three assists in 12 games in a Phoenix sweater, Stempniak has been statistically more productive than any other trade deadline-day acquisition.
