Three Free Agents Who Can Still Help a Team
The following article, which features former Dartmouth standout Lee Stempniak, appeared August 28 on the NHL FanHouse Web site.

Only One Free Agent Scored More Goals Than Lee Stempniak
Last Year: Is it possible that Lee Stempniak's
goal-scoring explosion in Phoenix (the one that saw him score 14
goals in 18 regular season games after the trade deadline) hurt him
more than it helped him? I admit, it sounds silly, but it just
furthers the questions that surround the 27-year-old offensive
enigma that has twice flirted with 30 goals, and twice failed to
reach the 15-goal mark. It would have been easy to assume (and I
certainly did) that his 28-goal campaign from this past season --
which was split with Toronto and Phoenix -- combined with his age
(again, still only 27) would have made him an attractive target in
a woefully thin free agent market for goal-scorers.
Still, the calendar is set to turn over to September and Stempniak
is still without a team. Perhaps a one-year deal with a team where
he wouldn't have to worry about being "the man" to show he can
produce similar numbers to the ones he produced last year could be
a consideration.
