Team Notes: Dartmouth Opens Season at Ivy Shootout

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team is ready to begin its 2010-11 campaign with a 4 p.m. matchup on Friday versus Princeton in the first game of the Ivy Shootout. Yale is hosting the shootout and will be squaring off with Brown at 7 p.m. in the second game of the two-day tournament. The winning and losing teams will match up on on Saturday with the Elis playing at 7 p.m. both nights. The two games for the Big Green are regular-season contests that count on the overall record and against the team's RPI, but do not count in either the ECAC or Ivy League standings.

THIS WEEKEND’S GAMES
The Dartmouth men’s hockey team  kicks off the 2010-11 season at the Ivy League Shootout with an opening game against Princeton. The Big Green will square off against either Yale or Brown in the second round.

SCOUTING PRINCETON
Princeton comes into the game with Dartmouth fresh off a 7-1 exhibition win over Morrisville State. The Tigers were victorious in both of their exhibition contests with a 5-4 win over Quebec. 
    Will MacDonald led his team with four points against Morrisville as his linemates Kevin Lohry and Marc Hagel also scored and had multiple points in the win.
    Sean Bonar earned the win in goal, making seven saves in the final two periods of the contest. Alan Reynolds started the game and made three saves.

DARTMOUTH-PRINCETON SERIES
Dartmouth’s opening game against Princeton will mark the 188th meeting between the two teams. Currently Dartmouth holds the lead, 92-82-13. The two began meeting on Jan. 9, 1907. Last season the Tigers won both meetings by scores of 2-1 and 5-3. In the last 10 meetings Princeton holds the lead, 5-4-1.

2009-10 AGAINST PRINCETON
In the first matchup between the two on 11/13/09, Princeton came away with a 2-1 win on home ice. Mike Kramer tallied the first goal of the game in the first period before Dartmouth’s Scott Fleming tied things up in the second. Neither side could find the back of the net in the third as the two skated to overtime. Cam MacIntyre buried the game winner just 37 seconds into the extra frame.
    In the rubber game in Hanover, the two were tied after the opening period, but in the second frame the Tigers exploded for three goals. The Big Green was able to only get one back off a power play goal by Joe Gaudet. Princeton added another one to its total in the third and, despite a late strike by Fleming, the Big Green fell, 5-3.

DARTMOUTH-BROWN SERIES
The series between Brown and Dartmouth has been very tight as the Big Green holds a slim margin, just 65-63-7. Dartmouth has won four of the last five meetings with one tie, and six of the last 10 meetings. Bob Gaudet is currently 18-9-2 against the Bears.

DARTMOUTH-YALE SERIES
One of Dartmouth’s longest running series is against Yale. The two began meeting in 1907 when the Big Green came away with a 4-2 win. The Bulldogs swept the Big Green with two 4-2 victories in 2009-10. Yale is currently 6-4 in the last 10 meetings with victories in the last four and. Bob Gaudet holds a 17-13-3 record against the Bulldogs but Yale leads overall, 96-88-12.

Dartmouth opens up the home portion of its schedule with contests against Rensselaer and Union on Nov. 5 and 6. 

SEASON OPENERS
Dartmouth is opening up 2010-11 on the road. The Big Green last opened a season on the road in 2008-09. Dartmouth is 31-22-2 when opening  up on the road. Under the tutelage of Bob Gaudet, the Big Green has gone 7-6 in the first game of the year.
