Video: Jones Earns Avalanche Play-of-Week Honors
Colorado forward David Jones, a former
Dartmouth standout, took home the first "Avalanche Play of the
Week" honor of the 2010-11 season with his backhand goal against
the Detroit Red Wings. The tally, which went through the legs of
both defenseman Doug Janik and goaltender Jimmy Howard, received
35.76% of fan votes.
Jones beat out Chris Stewart's season-opening tally against
Chicago (30.95%) and Ryan Wilson's big hit on Nikolay Zherdev
(33.29%).
The play now automatically qualifies for Colorado’s year-end
“Play of the Year” bracket-style tournament – to
be determined by Avalanche fans. Be sure to check back each Friday
during the season, as three new choices for the Avalanche’s
“Play of the Week” will be posted for you to vote
upon.
Jones’ Spinning Backhand – 10/12 @
Detroit
David Jones scored his second goal of the game on this
creative move. Matt Duchene carried the puck into the
offensive zone and dropped a pass to Brandon Yip at the
right point. Yip then made a feed into the slot to Jones, who
corralled the pass, spun to his right and put a low backhander past
Jimmy Howard.
