Team Notes: Dartmouth Continues on Road to Quinnipiac and Princeton
HANOVER, N.H. – With a thirteen-goal weekend last week against Clarkson and St. Lawrence, the Dartmouth men's hockey team is looking to continue its good fortune on the road against Quinnipiac and Princeton this Friday and Saturday.
The Big Green used a North Country sweep on Nov. 12 & 13 to push its ECAC Hockey record to 2-1-1 as Dartmouth scored a 7-1 victory over Clarkson and then a 6-1 win over St. Lawrence to earn its first ever single-season sweep over the Knights and Saints.
Against Clarkson, the Big Green had six different players score goals as Dustin and Nick Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) tallied three of the seven goals on the night as Dustin led the team with three points. Junior netminder James Mello allowed just one goal late in the third period while making 34 saves on the night. Rookie Taylor Boldt (Niwot, Colo.) had his first collegiate goal in the victory.
The next night at St. Lawrence five players scored goals with Mike Keenan (Weymouth, Mass.) having two as the Big Green stymied a third period SLU comeback with back-to-back goals by Keenan early in the frame. Mello was again stellar in net with 27 saves and again, just one goal.
Thanks to their play, Mello was named the league's goalie of the week while Matt Lindblad (Winnetka, Ill.) was the rookie of the week. Lindblad entered the weekend with just one goal but after Saturday night he'd collected five, including a power play strike against Clarkson.
This weekend, Dartmouth continues on the road with its second bus trip in as many weeks. The Big Green travels to Quinnipiac for a 7 p.m. game on Friday before heading down to Princeton on Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest. The first matchup of the weekend pits Dartmouth against a hungry Bobcat team that has just one ECAC Hockey victory. Quinnipiac took a 3-1 win over Colgate last weekend to earn two league points last week. Currently two players are leading the team with seven points apiece as Connor Jones is one of five players with three goals and Yuri Bouharevich leads the squad with six assists. In net, Dan Clarke has carried the majority of the load with a 3.20 GAA and an .882 save percentage and he owns a 3-4-1 record.
On Saturday, Princeton will be putting its 3-1 league record on the line as the Tigers are looking to exact revenge for a 2-1 Dartmouth victory to open the 2010-11 season. Princeton earned a split last week with wins over Colgate and Cornell and is on a three-game win streak. The Tigers are being led by Andrew Calof with 11 points and he is the top play maker with nine assists. Matt Arhontas has recorded the most goals for Princeton with five. Three goalies have split the time in net with all making appearances in two games apiece and each owning a 1-1-0 record. Freshman Sean Bonar leads the squad with a .944 save percentage and a 1.48 GAA.
Next weekend Dartmouth and Harvard will play a home-and-home with the two meeting in Cambridge on Friday before coming back to Hanover on Saturday.
