David Jones has as generic a name as it gets, but the Avalanche is counting on him to do unique things as the team's new second-line center.

Jones, Avs coach Joe Sacco said Tuesday, will skate on a line with Matt Duchene and Milan Hejduk when the Avs open their season Thursday night at the Pepsi Center against Stanley Cup champion Chicago.

"I think he's earned the right to be there right now," Sacco said. "I like the fit right now. Nothing's permanent, but we're going to give him a chance up there and see what happens."
