Team Notes: Dartmouth Opens at Home

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team kicks off the ECAC Hockey portion of its schedule this weekend at home, hosting Rensselaer on Friday and Union on Saturday. Tickets are still available and can be bought by contacting the Dartmouth ticket office at (603) 646-2466 or buying them at Thompson Arena starting at 6 p.m.

Last weekend in the first games of the season Dartmouth defeated Princeton on Friday before falling to Yale on Saturday in the championship game of the Ivy Shootout. The Big Green never trailed in its season-opening victory over the Tigers. Evan Stephens’ (Bessemer, Mich.) goal early in the second gave Dartmouth the lead but Princeton scored late in the period to even the score.Paul Lee (Garden City, N.Y.) recorded a goal four minutes into the third to claim the 2-1 win. Jody O’Neill (Nepean, Ont.) made 21 saves in the win.

The next night Jason Bourgea (South Burlington, Vt.) tallied his first career goal to give the Big Green the opening lead. Broc Little tied the contest for Yale before Scott Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.) gave Dartmouth the lead back in the second period. But six-straight goals by the Bulldogs gave the home team the lead and the 7-3 win. Rookie Matt Lindblad (Winnetka, Ill.) scored his first career goal late in the game but it wasn’t enough.

Rensselaer brings a 3-1-3 overall record to Hanover this weekend. The Engineers recently earned a 3-3 non conference tie with Union, snapping a three-game winning streak for RPI. The Engineers have earned wins over Niagara, RIT and Bentley in the early-goings of the season.

Union comes into the weekend 5-1-2 after having earned two 3-3 ties recently to Connecticut and Rensselaer. The Dutchmen had won five of its first six games prior to that. Union started the season off with two wins over Sacred Heart before dropping a 2-1 game to Alaska Fairbanks. The Dutchmen then tallied wins over Alaska Anchorage, Niagara and RIT prior to the ties.
