Dartmouth will welcome six newcomers into the fold next year
with four forwards, one defenseman and one goalie on the list. With
two of the additions the Big Green will also have three sets of
brothers on the team.
Mark Goggin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Dustin Walsh (Shannonville,
Ont.) will join big brothers, Connor and Nick. Jim Gaudet (Etna,
N.H.) joined the team last season and was welcomed by brother
Joe.
The younger Goggin comes to Hanover with an impressive resume
already. The 5-11 forward was drafted by Boston in the 2008 NHL
Entry Draft and spent last season with the Chicago Steel. Goggin
graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall and was selected to play in the
USA Hockey Select 15, 16 and 17 Festivals. He represented the U.S.
on the Under-17 team that played in the Ivan Hlinka Tournament and
the the Under-18 Vlad Dzurilla Tournament. He was recently named to
the 2009 New England Prep School All-Star Team.
"Mark is a top-end recruit," Gaudet said. "He's a smooth, strong
player with tremendous skills and scoring ability."
Walsh, a 6-2 forward spent last season with the Kingston Voyageurs
of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. He recorded 90 points last
year and was selected to play in the Canadian Junior Hockey
League's 2008 Top Prospects Game. He was named to the 2008 NHL
Central Scouting Report.
"Dustin is big and fluid. He has a terrific understanding of the
game and with his tremendous passing ability and poise around the
net he should make a big impact for us," Gaudet said.
The final two forwards are Alex Goodship (Blackfalds, Alta.) and
Jason Bourgea (South Burlington, Vt.). Goodship played last season
with three teams before landing with the Prince George Spruce
Kings. He racked up 63 points in 60 games. Bourgea becomes
Dartmouth's first recruit from Vermont since Will Boardman in
2004-05. Bourgea, a 5-8 forward spent last year with the Indiana
Ice of the USHL. He played in the US Hockey Select 15, 16 and 17
Festivals and was a New England Prep School All Star selection in
2008. Bourgea was named the New England Prep School Player of the
Year last season.
"Alex bring high-end speed and a tremendous work ethic to our team
while Jason will be very potent for us around the net," Gaudet
said. "Alex has a great understanding of the game. Jason plays the
game at a high pace and is very energetic."
On the blueline Mike Keenan (Weymouth, Mass.) brings an impressive
file. Keenan, a 6-0 defenseman played two seasons for the Sioux
City Musketeers where he scored 43 points and had 230 penalty
minutes. He finished fourth among defenseman in over points in the
USHL and was eighth in penalty minutes.
"Mike is a strong kid who brings a real physical element to his
game," Gaudet said. "He has a tremendous work ethic and passion and
has a knack for blocking shots."
In goal Charles Corsi (Rosemere, Que.) will help shore up the net.
Corsi played two years for Westminster School where he played in
112 games in two seasons and finished with a career .920 save
percentage.
"Charles is positionally sound. He is quick and agile and has the
ability to steal a game or two for us."
Along with the six recruits the Big Green also announced the
2009-10 schedule. As well as the always tough ECAC Hockey games,
Dartmouth will also take on several Hockey East foes.
Dotting the schedule will be six teams that made it to the NCAA
Tournament last season. The non-conference side of things will
feature Providence traveling to Hanover to finish up a
home-and-home series in November before Sacred Heart comes to
Thompson in December while the Big Green closes out the month with
a game at Vermont. Dartmouth will also host its Ledyard National
Bank Tournament the first weekend of January with UMass Lowell,
Holy Cross and Northeastern. Of course one of the biggest rivalries
on the calendar will take place on Jan. 16 in Manchester, N.H.
against the University of New Hampshire.
Up and down the schedule the Big Green will be challenged by
league and non-league opponents as Dartmouth looks to take it's
young squad and deep bench back to Albany and the ECAC Hockey
Championship.
