Like several of his Maple Leafs teammates, winger Lee Stempniak
will get a chance to extend his hockey season.
Stempniak was announced today as one of 19 players on Team USA's
initial roster for the world hockey championship, which begins
April 24 in Switzerland. It will be Stempniak's third consecutive
appearance at the world championship and he will join Toronto
teammate Jason Blake on the American squad. Leafs' coach Ron Wilson
and general manager Brian Burke hold those same positions with the
U.S. team.
Stempniak said he was contacted by Burke yesterday. He will depart
for Switzerland on Sunday.
