PITTSBURGH – Considered one of the veteran players for the
Pittsburgh Penguins team of prospects that participated in last
week’s rookie tournament in Kitchener, Ontario, Nick Johnson
had one aspect of his game he wanted to work on.
Hitting.
Johnson, who developed into a physical winger last season for the
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins – his first full season in the
AHL, spent his summer back home in Calgary playing street hockey
with friends. While that may be fine for conditioning and
stickhandling, shinny does little for players who earn a paycheck
banging bodies.
