TORONTO — The Toronto Maple Leafs had scouted and followed
the exploits of Lee Stempniak for three weeks before they acquired
the winger from the St. Louis Blues.
“He may have been or was the best player for them,”
Leafs coach Ron Wilson said.
Stempniak had scored three goals and 12 points in his last eight
games, including the overtime game-winner against the Anaheim Ducks
last Friday.
