While Cornell’s 1-0 win over Princeton garnered most of ECAC
Hockey’s attention this past weekend, a pair of teams who
weren’t predicted to be very good continued to play
impressively using very different formulas.
Dartmouth, which was picked by both the coaches and media to
finish 11th out of 12 teams, beat RPI and Union by matching 5-2
scores to improve to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference. St.
Lawrence, which was tabbed to finish eighth in both polls, followed
up a win against Yale with a tie to Brown to improve to 4-2-1 and
1-0-1 in the ECAC.
Big Green coach Bob Gaudet knew he’d take a hit last year by
playing so many freshmen. But he hoped it would pay off this
season, and it has. Dartmouth’s top three scorers are are all
sophomores: Scott Fleming (five goals, one assist); Adam Estoclet
(one goal, five assists); and Joe Stejskal (four goals).
