Whittet to Assist with Under-17 Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Hockey recently announced the coaching staff and 21-player roster for its 2008 U.S. Under-17 Select Team. The group will participate in the 2008 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament from August 19-24 in Prievidza, Slovakia. Eleven-year Dartmouth assistant Brendan Whittet was named the assistant coach.

Team members were chosen from the 2008 USA Hockey Select 16 Player Development Camp, which was held June 21-27 at the ESL Sports Centre in Rochester, N.Y., and featured many of America's best hockey players born in 1992.

Eric Rud, assistant coach at St. Cloud State University, will serve as head coach of the U.S. Under-17 Select Team, with Whittet.

The U.S. roster features 12 forwards who topped all players with nine points (7-2) in five games at the Select 16 Camp. The roster also includes seven defensemen. Two netminders will share goaltending duties for Team USA.

Rud is set to begin his fifth season as an assistant coach at St. Cloud State. Prior to his time at SCSU, he served as an assistant coach at Colorado College and helped the team earn a berth in the 2005 NCAA Men's Frozen Four.

Whittet is entering his 11th season as an assistant coach at Dartmouth, where he helped the team capture the 2005-06 Cleary Cup as the ECAC Hockey regular-season champions. Prior to his time at Dartmouth, he served as an assistant coach at both Brown University and Colby College.
