Hanover -- Dartmouth's ongoing National Hockey League contingent
has doubled in the span of 24 hours with the call-ups of Ben
Lovejoy and Tanner Glass from their respective minor-league
affiliates.
Lovejoy received the first NHL promotion of his professional
career late Sunday afternoon when the Pittsburgh Penguins summoned
him from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
Lovejoy, in his second pro season, was in uniform for last night's
game with Buffalo at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, wearing No.
65.
The Pens needed an extra defenseman after veteran blueliner Hal
Gill sustained an injury to his right shoulder in a loss to Ottawa
over the weekend. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the
team made no connection between Gill's injury, which the former
Bruin termed as “not serious,” and the call to Lovejoy,
whose family lives in Orford.
