HANOVER -- Was Evan Stephens a budding teen-age hockey
star or a roadie for Def Leppard's concert tour? Scan the Dartmouth
freshman's itinerary since age 13 -- Marquette, Mich.; Holton,
Mich.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Hanover -- and judge
for yourself.
Since the eighth grade, Stephens has spent nine out of every 12 months away from his native Bessemer, Mich., pursuing pucks in Bantam AA, Midget AAA, the United States Hockey League (USHL) and now ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League.
At Dartmouth, Stephens might have finally found a home alongside classmate Joe Stejskal as the Big Green's top blue-line duo. Stephens is plus-1 through nine games, contributing a goal and three assists, while Stejskal, a fifth-round draftee of the Montreal Canadiens, is plus-3 and rarely ventures into the attacking zone.
