Holiday Homecoming for Ferlin

The following article featuring Cornell forward Brian Ferlin appeared in the January 1 issue of the Naples Daily News.

 — When Cornell forward Brian Ferlin skated onto the Germain Arena ice on Friday afternoon, pretty much every element in his young hockey career came together all at once.

Behind the Big Red bench was coach Mike Schafer, one of first coaches to believe Ferlin could succeed at the Division I level. Behind the opposing team’s bench was first-year Clarkson coach Casey Jones, a former assistant of Schafer and the man who recruited Ferlin to Cornell.

In the stands were Ferlin’s parents, who spent countless weekends during Ferlin’s middle school years driving from his hometown of Jacksonville to Estero for youth tournaments. Also in the crowd rooting were plenty of Ferlin’s former Jr. Everblades teammates.
